Hoping for more "Last Resort" is a last resort, "Private Practice" takes down its shingle and this week’s biggest premiere can be connected to Kevin Bacon in one step. Here’s what to watch and what to avoid on television this week.

Monday: "The Following" 8 p.m., Fox: Kevin Bacon is great in this well-made but extremely violent and depressing serial-killer-meets-cult drama that teeters on the edge of misery-porn.

Tuesday: "The Taste" 7 p.m., ABC: What’s cooking? A panel of celebrity chefs including Anthony Bourdain and Nigella Lawson guide pros and home chefs in a reality competition that hinges on blind taste tests.

"Private Practice" 9 p.m., ABC: Violet begins a new project just in time for tonight’s last-ever episode.

"Parenthood" 9 p.m., NBC: A slew of events in tonight’s Season 4 closer ensure that there will be plenty going on at the start of Season 5.

Wednesday: "Nashville" 9 p.m., ABC: Whenever I hear the word "hit" in the same sentence as the names Rayna and Juliette, I think cat fight rather than chart-topper.

Thursday: "Glee" 8 p.m., Fox: I forget … is the Sadie Hawkins dance the one where the girls get to throw frozen Slurpees at the guys?

"Last Resort" 7 p.m., ABC: Tonight is the last "Last Resort." Ever.

Friday: "Spartacus" 8 p.m., Starz: "I am the final season of ‘Spartacus!’ No, I am the final season of ‘Spartacus!’" The warrior makes headway against the Romans in tonight’s third-season opener.

"Shakespeare Uncovered" 9 p.m., PBS: I hope this title is figurative because, seriously, nobody needs to see that.

Saturday: "Figure Skating" 7 p.m., NBC: Ashley Wagner defends her title in the U.S. Championships women’s final.

"Shackleton’s Frozen Hell" 7 p.m., Smithsonian: I know this is a recounting of an early 1900s Antarctic trek, but I still say it sounds like the worst microwave dinner ever.

"The Abominable Snowman" 8 p.m., Syfy: If you find him in a blizzard, you have to call him "Snowsquatch," right?

"My Big Redneck Vacation" 8 p.m., CMT: Or, as Miley Cyrus calls it, "My Vacation." Season 3 kicks off tonight.

Sunday: "Pro Bowl" 6 p.m., NBC: It’s AFC vs. NFC in Pro Football’s all-star game, and KFC on my couch while I’m watching it.
