Oscar gold had a new meaning this year as metallics ruled the red carpet in Los Angeles. The 82nd annual Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday was a strong return to glamour as Sandra Bullock, Miley Cyrus and others wore shiny, elegant and neutral gowns.
Just like last year's ceremony, nudes and soft colors also were well represented. Many celebrities opted for strapless and off-the-shoulder styles, which dominated the star-studded fashion.
Sorry, there wasn't a Björk or Cher look this year. The closest might have been the colorful, ruffled frock worn by "Avatar" co-star Zoë Saldana.
Flowers, real and embellished, were a strong accessory of the night. Austin-born fashion designer and director Tom Ford wore a white gardenia on his lapel, while Mo'Nique, who was inspired by the late actress and Oscar winner Hattie McDaniel, wore white gardenias in her hair. Other major trends included long trains, up-dos and diamond bracelets and rings, unlike last year's statement jewelry trend.
Here we present some of the night's show-stopping looks.
