I moved to Austin from Tucson on Memorial Day in 2010, not knowing anyone or really anything about Austin. I was at a crossroads in life and was ready for some changes. I started by quitting smoking and practicing yoga, and I began running at Lady Bird Lake. I gradually increased my distance over time three-mile loop, First Street loop, Congress Avenue loop, and now the Interstate 35 to Loop 1 (MoPac) loop is my standard run. I love it. I love the hot, steamy days, I tolerate those cold winter mornings and I soak up the beauty in between. I love the people-watching, and I find it comforting when I see the same faces out on the trail. I am so thankful to have found such a beautifully diverse community. My gal is the ultimate inspiration. Our office is highlighted by her many marathon and half-marathon medals, and my first Livestrong Austin Half Marathon medal as well. Running is such a big part of our lives and serves as our therapy. I am now committed and entered into my first marathon: the New York City Marathon.
