New 134-room hotel planned near Austin’s airport

A new hotel will soon go up near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Choice Hotels said Tuesday it plans to build a four-story, 134-room Cambria Suites at East Ben White Boulevard and East Riverside Drive in Southeast Austin.

Cloud Nine Hospitality will be the operator for the hotel, which should open in 2019.

“Austin is one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S. and an ideal market for the Cambria brand,” Mark Shalala, vice president of development of upscale brands at Choice Hotels, said in a written statement. “As part of our aggressive growth strategy, we’ve been targeting both state capital and large university markets – and Austin benefits from being both. We like the stability, higher (revenue per available room) and consistent room night demand these markets typically deliver.

“In addition to the state Capitol and the University of Texas, Austin boasts a booming tech sector, thriving music scene and several annual events which make it a popular destination for both business and leisure travelers. The hotel’s close proximity to both the airport and downtown, combined with great amenities, makes the Cambria hotel perfectly suited for the modern traveler.”

Those amenities will include a pool, spa, meeting spaces, fitness center and a restaurant and bar with dine-in and grab-and-go options.

Choice Hotels launched the Cambria Suites brand in 2005. There are currently three locations in Texas: McAllen, Plano and Southlake. Two more are under construction in downtown Dallas and Richardson, with six in the development pipeline: Waco, downtown San Antonio, Shenandoah/The Woodlands, Galveston and two in Houston.

“The Cambria Hotel Austin Airport is an important next stop for the brand as we continue to expand in key markets across the country, especially in Texas,” Shalala said. “We look forward to working with Cloud Nine Hospitality on this project and providing guests with a dynamic, upscale lodging option.”
