Music

Ben Ballinger EP release at Cactus Cafe. One of Austin’s most promising young rock ’n’ roll singer-songwriters over the past decade, Ballinger left town about a year ago, moving back to his home turf in the Pacific Northwest. It appears he missed the action here, as he’s now returned, aiming to complete a record he was working on when he left. In the meantime, he’s mined his archives to rescue a 2013 set recorded live at the Cactus, which he’s releasing as an EP. He’ll celebrate at the scene of the crime. Carson McHone opens. $10. 8:30 p.m. Aug. 9. 2247 Guadalupe St. cactuscafe.org. —Peter Blackstock
