With more hours of daylight, scenic trips are more enjoyable without the rush to beat nightfall, so you can hike, camp, swim and gallivant to your heart’s delight.
Since summer break is approaching and the sun is setting later, it’s time to plan some day trippin’.
Pedernales Falls State Park
This beautiful state park is a favorite for Austinites and tourists, it even made a cameo in Richard Linklater’s award-winning film, ‘Boyhood.’ Waterfalls rush over sloping, bright white limestone surrounded by lush trees. It’s ideal for hiking and kayaking, but if you just want to relax, wading in the river and walking about is welcomed.
It almost looks unreal, a haven with an emerald green pool tucked under a limestone grotto which gives it a certain kind of tranquility and almost privacy from the outside world. It was formed after a "dome of an underground river collapsed." All the locals know about that blistering Texas heat, and this pool doesn’t disappoint with the water dropping to nearly 50 degrees.

It’s pretty enchanting alright. The mountain sparkles of pink granite, and a long hike to the top makes the view worthwhile. Of course, it’s all about getting up those 425 feet up the giant batholith. Even if you stop about halfway, pat yourself on the back knowing you tackled this massive mountain.
