Despite ongoing recovery efforts after Hurricane Harveyravaged most of the small coastal town, Port Aransas recently made a list of best vacations for parents with young children.
The list says Port Aransas is perfect for teaching kids to fish and learn to surf, and its 18 miles of beaches provide fun for kids of all ages.
The popular Texas tourist destination is on the upswing after the eye of the hurricane passed just north of the roughly 4,000-resident town in August and shuttered an estimated 90 percent of businesses.

Jeff Hentz, president and CEO of the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau, told the American-Statesman in February that an estimated 70 percent of the town’s hotel rooms and vacation homes are expected to be available by June 1, in time for the summer tourist season.

About half of the town’s population has yet to return, but Hentz said the beaches were “virtually untouched” by the storm and relayed the message that the town is “taking reservations” and that they need visitors more than ever.
