You could drive the 160 miles to Houston and then drive another 160 miles around the sprawling beast trying to get a taste of the best barbecue the area has to offer, or you can just head down to the Houston Barbecue Festival. The event, which this year moves beyond the city limits to the Humble Civic Center, takes place April 15, and tickets are now on sale.

While Central Texans may look down their noses at the Bayou City, Houston has an amazing barbecue scene, which will be represented at the festival by Gatlin’s BBQ, Pinkerton’s Barbecue, Ray’s BBQ Shack, The Pit Room, and Roegel’s Barbecue Co.

The surrounding towns, which Houston barbecue lovers like to incorporate into the city in order to boast their bona fides, will also have some standout representatives there like Tejas Chocolate & Barbecue (Humble), CorkScrew BBQ (Spring) and Truth BBQ (Brenham).

Tickets are on sale now online. The pre-sale discount currently offered means general admission tickets are $50 (regularly $60) and VIP tickets, which grant early entry and a drink ticket, are $100 (regularly $120).
