A couple familiar faces have temporarily returned to Austin TV news.
Foti Kallergis and Amy Johnston-Harper are both filling in at KVUE for the next few months, helping the station out while anchors Jade Mingus and Jessica Vess take maternity leave.
After spending five years at KTBC, Kallergis departed early last year to devote more time to his family’s cooking school. But he says he’s missed the news business and jumped at the opportunity to return to Austin’s airwaves when KVUE news director Frank Volpicella came calling.
"I’ve always admired his leadership, integrity, commitment to excellence and winning attitude," Kallergis said. "He has been a mentor to me for many years. Aside from news, he is a great person with a lot of heart and loyalty to his friends and family."
Kallergis says he will primarily be working on KVUE’s morning and midday newscasts.
"I feel really blessed to be back," he said. "The entire KVUE team has welcomed me with open arms. I have a tremendous amount of respect for each and every person on the KVUE team, and I feel honored to be working alongside the best in the business. I’m honestly dreading the day I have to leave."
Johnston-Harper, meanwhile, popped up over the weekend, anchoring KVUE’s Saturday and Sunday evening newscasts — the same shift she worked for several years before leaving the station in 2011.
