Phil Vassar, a regular on Austin’s country radio stations, is the featured performer at this year’s Lighting of the Great Tree at the Domain.

He’ll perform his own tunes – and some holidays classics, too – Saturday night at 6, before the upscale shopping center flips the switch on its supersized Christmas tree.

Earlier in the day, from noon to 5 p.m., the Domain will offer a variety of holiday entertainment and family-friendly activities near the iPic movie theater.

This is the seventh year the Domain has hosted the Lighting of the Great Tree.

When Vassar got a call earlier this year asking him to appear at the event, he gave organizers an immediate "yes."

"I was like, ‘Are you kidding?’ Everyone loves Austin," he said. "It’s going to be great. I’m really pumped."

The holidays are typically a busy time of year for Vassar, but this year he says he’s taking it easy. He’ll perform just a handful of gigs – including one tonight in Dallas – before hunkering down to spend some serious time with his family.

"It’s been a busy, busy year," he said. "I’m looking forward to just sitting back and pulling out the old-school Christmas records, like we did when I was growing up."
