Far East Sixth Street’s popularity as a nightlife district has progressed steadily and organically of late. Now the reveler encounters full crowds on both sides of the mile-long corridor as soon as the sun starts to set.

Ten years ago, east of Interstate 35 on East Sixth Street, one found a familiar but fading mix of Latino businesses — some of them bars, eateries and clubs — including legendary hangouts like the former Rabbit’s Lounge and the still-active, but daytime-only Cisco’s.
