Filmmaker David Lowery (a one-time Austinite) and his producing partners James M. Johnston and Toby Halbrooks have one of indie cinemas most intriguing summer titles, "Ain’t Them Bodies Saints," teed up for an August release after successful fest runs at Sundance and Cannes.
And apparently they will stay busy after the moody Western starring Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara bows in theaters. The trio’s production company Sailor Bear Films will produce writer-director Alex Ross Perry’s "Listen Up Philip," starring Jason Schwartzman and Elisabeth Moss, according to an exclusive from The Wrap. Perry’s 2011 film, "The Color Wheel," was nominated for a John Cassavetes Award at the Independent Spirit Awards. (Read a 2012 Q&A between Austin filmmaker Bob Byington and Perry from the Chronicle here.)
"Ain’t Them Bodies Saints," purchased by IFC Films out of Sundance, will open August 16 in limited release and in Austin 23. Lowery and Johnston are slated to appear at the Violet Crown on August 6 for a screening of Lowery’s 2009 feature debut "St. Nick." Buy tickets to that here.
