Looking for a way to celebrate international Go Skateboarding Day next Friday?

The clatter of tiny wheels will rise over the city during Wild in the Streets, a 3-mile group skateboard ride through downtown.

The ride starts at 6 p.m. at the Austin BMX and Skate Park, 1213 Shoal Creek Boulevard near House Park. The exact route will be made public the day of the event.

The event has been staged in New York City, Vancouver, Montreal, Madrid, London, Los Angeles and Detroit, but this is the first time it’s come to Austin.

Emerica professional team skaters including Andrew Reynolds, Leo Romero, Brandon Westgate, Ed Templeton, Jerry Hsu, Justin "Figgy" Figueroa, Bryan Herman, Collin Provost and others will lead the ride, which is expected to draw several hundred people.

The skateboarders hope to promote the positive benefits of skateboarding. A portion of proceeds from sales at the post-ride celebration will benefit Jojo Williamson, an Austin skater injured in a hit and run accident earlier this year that also killed his girlfriend.

Emerica will donate skateboards to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area, in partnership with Boards for Bros, a non-profit organization that collects and refurbishes skateboards and gives them to children who can’t afford to buy their own.
