Tired of watching Chris Froome, Alberto Contador and all those other skinny dudes wearing Lycra cycling kits have all the fun at this year’s 100th Tour de France? Bicycle Sport Shop will host an Austin take on the famous French cycling race this Saturday. Le Triple Crown, a new incarnation of the store’s old Tres Burritos ride, will feature three options, one starting at each of the store’s three Austin locations. The 25-mile, in-town Lantern Rouge ride will start at the downtown store at 517 South Lamar Boulevard. The hilly, quad-busting 42-mile King of the Mountains ride will start at the store at 10947 Research Boulevard. And the Sprint to Win ride, with gently rolling routes of 25, 50 or 60 miles, will start at the store at 9900 West Parmer Lane. All rides will start at 7:30 a.m. and will include post-ride celebrations with tacos, beer, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages. The Parmer ride will also include live music. If you want to race, you can pick up a timing chip and ankle strap at packet pickup and let your legs loose on designated stretches of the routes. A half-mile climb up Lost Creek Drive will be timed in the Research ride, and a half mile stretch of the Parmer ride will be timed as a sprint. It’s not a group race - timing will be measured from the time you pass the start banner and finishes when you cross the finish line. The fastest male and female riders on those stretches will win $50 gift certificates. The rides will be fully supported with rest stops, water and support vehicles for mechanical assistance. Registration is $50 until July 19 at www.letriplecrown.com or $60 on ride day. A portion of proceeds benefit the Austin Cycling Association.
