A trail version of the popular Ragnar Relays is coming to Texas.
Registration opened this week for the brand new Ragnar Trail Hill Country, scheduled for a year from now at Flat Rock Ranch in Comfort. The two-day, overnight team relay will unfold Oct. 17-18, 2014.
Teams of eight (and four) will rotate runners along three different trails of varying length and difficult, covering a cumulative 130 miles. While one person runs, the other team members will get to kick back at the Ragnar Village, where they can eat, listen to live music and hang out at a campfire.
It’s easy to understand why some folks call these events a slumber party without sleep, pillows or deodorant. Some teams run in costume; they all leave with wacky stories inspired by sleep deprivation, camaraderie and long hours of running.
It’s not the first time Ragnar has been to Texas. The Utah-based company staged one of its 200-mile road relays here in 2008. Forty-one teams competed then. More than 100 teams are expected at the new trail race, according to Jon Mattrisch with Ragnar.
The race marks the ninth event since Ragnar launched the trail race series in 2013.
