The Austin running community wants people visiting Austin for South By Southwest to hit the road (or trail) while they’re here.
To encourage people who aren’t familiar with the city’s best running routes to go for a run, Eli Asch of Conley Sports, which puts on the Austin Marathon, is asking local runners willing to serve as spontaneous group leaders to Tweet details of their running plans at least 3 or 4 hours before they head out.
"There are lots of people in our city over the next week," he says. "Some of them won’t just be drinking a ton, but will also try to get in a workout or two while they’re here. I think it would be cool if local running community members showed some hospitality by serving as run guides for these folks by sharing running plans through Twitter."
Here are his tips if you want to lead a run:The Tweet should include when and where (give a specific location) you’ll be starting and how far and fast you’ll be going.Attach a selfie (ideally in the clothes you’ll be running in) so folks who don’t know you can identify you.Tag the post #SXGroupRun.Show up to the place you’ll be starting your run and see if any out-of-towners (or locals!) want to join you!Have a great run, maybe with some new friends.
