It’s American Craft Beer Week, which means that all over Austin, bars and breweries are celebrating with special events highlighting local and national beers. Here’s the lowdown on those events.
Austin-American Craft Beer Week Launch Party at Wright Bros. Brew & Brew. Starting at 6 p.m., kick off ACBW with lots of special tappings, including Jester King Ol’ Oil on draft, RU-55 in bottles and Boxer’s Revenge in bottles; Hops & Grain Pale del Roble and Hopback Extra Pale Ale; Live Oak Roggenbier with glassware; Real Ale 18th Anniversary Gose; and a TBD beer from Austin Beerworks.
Drink-a-long, Sing-a-long at Whole Foods Domain. From 6 to 8 p.m., sway and sing to good ole fashioned drinking songs. (Lyric sheets provided; beers are pay as you go.)
Lagunitas Pint Night at Draught House. Receive a free Lagunitas mason jar with any of their beers, including NightTime Ale, until closing.
Craft Beer Week Pairing Dinner at Uchi. At 7 p.m., Uchi is hosting its first ACBW event with seven courses of Uchi creations paired with Hops & Grain and Jester King beers.
Craft Pride Cellar: Bottle Release Night. The Rainey Street bar is clearing out its cellar of beers. At 7 p.m., the bottles, all aged between 6 months to 1 year, will be available for purchase along with a variety of glassware. The beer list includes Adelbert’s Barrel of Love, St. Arnold Bishop’s Barrel #5 and #6 and Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence, plus many more.
Pinthouse Pizza’s Oseary Drakoulias Release. An incredibly limited beer, Oseary Drakoulias is the Admiral Imperial Dry Irish Stout aged with Colorado-grown organic cherries from Big B’s Delicious Orchards in a silver oak Cabernet barrel. On nitro and CO2, it taps at 5 p.m.
Victory Brewing Tap Takeover at Draught House. For $8 starting at 6 p.m., get a beer, a pairing from Peached Tortilla and a pint glass. There will be a cask of Uncle Teddy’s Bitter.
Tre’s Guided Flight Night: Special Edition with Stiles Switch BBQ at Craft Pride. In addition to flight night, Craft Pride is hosting a tap takeover of Thirsty Planet beers, including the Stiles Switch collaboration, Wandering Wood. The flight night with Craft Pride’s cicerone will be an introduction to smoked malts. Starts at 7 p.m.
Oskar Blues Tap Takeover at Whole Foods Domain. From 5 to 7 p.m., enjoy hand-picked Oskar Blues beers with Chris "The Gubna" Katechis, as well as take home an Oskar Blues pint glass.
Rare Beers at Hi Hat Public House. Get a pint of Hops & Grain’s fourth release of the Greenhouse IPA, Ranger Creek’s Strawberry Milkstout and something special from Independence Brewing.
Prairie Night at the Brew Exchange. At 7 p.m., get your hands on pints of Prairie Vanilla Noir, Bible Belt and Wine Barrel Noir. Coffee and Vanilla Noir are also in bottles.
Bitch Beer’s Favorites at WhichCraft Beer Store. From 6 to 8 p.m., the writers of Bitch Beer will be in the store to sign copies of "Austin Beer" and recommend some of their favorite local beers, which you’ll be able to sample for free. Buy a book and one of their beer picks and receive a discount. (Full disclosure: I’m one of the Bitch Beer writers and will be present at the event.)
Live Oak Brewing Beer Dinner at Porter Ale House. A five-course dinner, for $40, paired with Live Oak beers, including the Hefeweizen, Liberation, Big Bark and Pilz. Starts at 6 p.m.
Buffalo Bayou Pint Night and Glass Giveaway at Craft Pride. At 7 p.m., meet the minds behind Houston’s Buffalo Bayou Brewing and taste some of their beers: the 1836, Ginger Citrus IPA, Don’t Fear the RIPA, Black Buffalo Rye’d and More Cowbell Double IPA.
Hops & Grain’s Special Tours and Tappings at the Tap Room. From 2 to 10 p.m., there will be Greenhouse beer tappings only available at the taproom, a Greenhouse firkin and a tour of the brewery led by owner Josh Hare and Greenhouse brewer Bob Galligan, in charge of the experimental pilot beers program. Peached Tortilla will also be on hand from 4 to 8 p.m. with food paired Hop & Grain beers. (Tour is already sold out.)
Victory at Sea Coffee Pairing at Wright Bros. Brew & Brew. Ballast Point’s Victory at Sea Imperial Porter will be paired with the coffee it was brewed with, San Diego’s Caffe Calabria.
Meet the Brewer Night at Whole Foods Domain. Karbach Brewing will be at the store from 6 to 7 p.m.
Left Hand Brewing Showcase at Draught House. Until close, enjoy a cask of the Smokejumper Imperial Smoked Porter and special Left Hand glassware.
New Belgium and Firestone Walker tappings at Hi Hat Public House. One last keg of Firestone Walker Walker’s Reserve remains; enjoy a pint and watch a special send-off ceremony of the keg. Also, there will be New Belgium Lips of Faith beers, including the 2014 La Folie.
Adelbert’s Tap Takeover at Whole Foods Market Arbor Trails. Scratchin’ Hippo, Tripel B, Naked Nun, Philosophizer, Black Rhino and Traveler will all be on draft starting at 6 p.m.
The ABGB’s German Sparkle Party Party and Firkin Night Starring Froetzel. The firkin? ABGB’s Hell Yes Helles with strawberries and something else "extra special." Plus, to celebrate the brewpub’s German Sparkle Party lager, rock out to Froetzel. Starts at 8 p.m.
Austin Beerworks Beer Dinner at Hi Hat Public House. Austin Beerworks brews, including Karl Kolsch, Pontius Pilot Pale Ale, Black Thunder, Ginuwine Pyrite and Heisenberg, paired with a special menu from Hi Hat.
Beer and a Shot at Drink.Well. Hops & Grain and Drink.Well are teaming up to release the Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrel-aged version of the El Portero Greenhouse beer called La Tortuga and the Hare. La Tortuga will be on tap all night starting at 6 p.m. and will pair with a shot of Buffalo Trace.
Yappy Hour at Whole Foods Domain. In the outside patio, the 5 to 6:30 p.m. event will feature Hops & Grain’s Pale Dog and the One They Call Zoe — both the beers and the dogs they’re named after. Free Parm Rinds available for your dogs.
Deschutes, Dogfish Head and Stone Brewing Pub Crawl. Night starts at the Peddler Bicycle Shop at 5 p.m., then ends at the Draught House at 9 p.m. with other stops in between. Prizes will be at each location, as well as beers such as Deschutes Mirror Mirror, Stone Saison and Stone Chipotle Smoked Porter.
Infamous Brewing Pint Night and Glass Giveaway at Craft Pride. In advance of Infamous releasing their IPA in cans next week, Craft Pride will have two different versions of each of their core beers on tap, including Bugsy’s with tabasco oak chips and coffee.
South Austin Brewery Pint Night at Red’s Porch. Check out some of South Austin’s new beers and take home pint glasses with the new logos.
Save the World Brewing Beer Release at Jester King. At 4 p.m., new philanthropic Marble Falls brewery Save the World is launching three new beers: Froctum Bonum, Lux Mundi and Humilus Filius.
Funk Del Roble Tapping at Banger’s. Banger’s has the only kegs of two rare Greenhouse releases and will serve them alongside Hops & Grain’s mainstays starting at 6 p.m.
Odell Brewing Dinner at Whole Foods Domain. Five-course dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. paired up with Odell beers, including Loose Leaf, 90 Shilling, Lugene, St. Lupulin and Myrcenary. $50 for dinner and beers; $40 for dinner only.
St. Arnold Icon Night at Craft Pride. On tap: Icon Blue Brown Porter, Icon Blue Brown Porter in a cask and cellar-aged Icon Gold Biere de Saison. Plus, the Boiler Room Berliner Weisse, Endeavour DIPA and St. Arnold Amber.
9th Annual ACBW Toast at Twisted X. Raise a pint of Tex Mex beer at 6 p.m.
Pint Day at Salt and Time. $13 gets you a sandwich and a special Hops & Grain Greenhouse beer and glass from 11 a.m. until supplies run out.
Brooklyn Brewing cheese pairing at Draught House. Get there at 6 p.m. to be one of the first 70 customers to receive a free pairing of four beers and four cheeses from Antonelli’s Cheese Shop.
Real Ale and Odell beers at Hi Hat Public House. A firkin of Odell Tequila Lime Loose Leaf, Real Ale 18th Anniversary Gose and Odell Lugene will all be among the special tappings.
Backyard Brew Games featuring New Belgium Brewing Company at Whole Foods Domain. From noon to 2 p.m., compete in a series of fun, well-known and somewhat ridiculous yard games and challenges. Whole Foods is keeping them secret until the day of the event. New Belgium is giving out prizes (but beer isn’t part of the actual games).
Oasis Brewing at Draught House. Austin’s newest brewery will be pouring its first three beers all night.
Southern Star Pint Night and Glass Giveaway at Craft Pride. Beers on tap starting at 7 p.m. include Buried Hatchet on nitro and in a cask with raspberries, Valkyrie on nitro and CO2, Bombshell Blonde and El Dorado IPA.
Barrel-Aged Night at Hi Hat Public House. Beer list will have Founders KBS, Boulevard Rye on Rye, Austin Beerworks Ginuwine Pyrite, Prairie Wine Barrel-Aged Noir, 512 WBADPP, Ballast Point Victory at Sea and Sea Monster, plus more barrel-aged treats. Starts at 6 p.m.
More Rare Tappings at Hops & Grain. Try special beers paired with the Gonzo food truck from noon to 8 p.m.
Austin Beerworks Pint Night and Glass Giveaway at Craft Pride. Find pretty much every Austin Beerworks beer Craft Pride can get its hands on starting at 7 p.m, including Gold Fist, Karl Kolsch and Double Deuce DIPA.
