What a sight for sore eyes.
Last month, Wheatsville Food Co-op posted a virtual tour of it new South Lamar location, whose opening has been pushed back a few weeks from late August into September.
I just now got around to watching the video, and it’s nice to finally be able to see the transformation that has been taking place inside part of a shopping center that has, to be frank, been something of an eyesore ever since several large tenents left, including Furr’s, whose building was falling apart and empty for more than a year, and people started using the front of the parking lot to sell used cars.
South Lamar from Lady Bird Lake to Ben White Boulevard feels like it’s nothing but a construction zone right now, and it will be nice to see the many multi-use projects completed in the next year or so. Even though there is a Sun Harvest-turned-Sprouts across the street (not to mention Central Market across the highway), this long-awaited second Wheatsville — which will have an indoor and outdoor cafe, I learned today from that video — can’t open soon enough for those of us who live in the area.
Store officials haven’t set in stone an opening date, but they are saying sometime in mid-September.
