Last year, South by Southwest experimented with its first-ever official food track.
It wasn’t a full-fledged multi-day track, like they’ve done with sports, style and Latino issues, but they did organize a handful of panels at a dedicated space. (SXSW Interactive has always featured lots of food panels, but the total number of food-related programming was actually down last year.)
That space was in the patio of a bar on Rainey Street, which wasn’t ideal because it rained that day, and the panels, one of which I helmed, felt a little hastily put together for such a strong subject matter.
But this year, the conference is getting the word out early that it wants to expand the food programming. In a blog post earlier this week, officials specifically asked for food-related programming for an even more official Food track, but they haven’t said how many days of food programming they would like to feature or where it would take place.
The PanelPicker is open now through July 25, and interested panelists or speakers are encouraged to submit their ideas through SXSW.com.
