David Bull of Congress, Bryce Gilmore of Barley Swine, and Philip Speer of Uchi have have been named 2014 semi-finalists for the prestigious James Beard Awards.
Bull and Gilmore are both nominated in the Best Chef – Southwest category. Speer is nominated for Outstanding Pastry Chef.
Austin has had success in recent years at the James Beard Awards, with Tyson Cole (Uchi) and Paul Qui (Uchiko) winning Best Chef – Southwest in 2011 and 2012. Gilmore was also a finalist last year, and Janina O’Leary (formerly of Trace and executive pastry chef at the soon-to-open laV) was a semi-finalist in 2013. The finalists will be announced on March 18.
