South by Southwest director of operations Eve McArthur succumbed to cancer at 5:50 p.m. Monday, her daughter Erin announced on Facebook. One of eight SXSW directors, Eve McArthur rose up the ranks from volunteer coordinator in 1989, the third year of the music convention/ festival.
"Eve was unflappable," said Nanette Labistida, a local Realtor who volunteered at SXSW in 1989.
Before working for SXSW, McArthur was executive director of a center for battered women. But her love of music drew her to SXSW, first as a volunteer herself.
McArthur had battled cancer for about a year. At the time there are no services confirmed. Eve is survived by daughter Erin McArthur and son Aiden Cohen.
