Austin is inFESTed, with calendar room for only so much Fun Fun Fun, but don’t forget about MEOW Con happening at the Renaissance Hotel near the Domain this Thursday through Saturday. Walk-up badges will run you $275 and get you into panels, workshops, showcases and all the other stuff you’ll find at music conventions. But this one has Suzi Quatro. The Detroit-raised rock pioneer, who has lived in England where she’s a big star, since 1971, is the recipient of this year’s Woman of Valor Award. There’s a banquet in honor of Suzi Q, sadly best known in this country as Leather Tuscadero from "Happy Days," Thursday night.

Kathy Valentine of the Go-Go’s, who counts, as a pivotal moment of her life, a live appearance on TV by Quatro and her band when Valentine was 15, will deliver MEOW’s keynote address Saturday. Margaret Moser of the Austin Chronicle, who’s written so beautifully about musicians, male and female, for decades, will also be honored.

"I’m so excited that I also get to introduce Suzi Quatro," Valentine said by phone Wednesday from her home off Bee Cave Road. "I’ve been doing some research and I’m just amazed by all the great female bands of the past that no one’s ever heard of," Valentine said.
