Okayplayer, the record label and Website founded by the Roots that launched the de-regionalizing hip-hop message board community way back in 1999, announced a four-part SXSW concert series this morning. The shows are presented in coordination with OKP partner sites Okayfuture, OkayAfrica and LargeUp.
Highlights include a free day party at Empire Garage presented by LargeUp and House of Marley which includes a mash up of the Rice and Peas and Heat Wave parties some of the hottest dancehall events in NYC and London respectively. RSVP here.
Okayfuture, the new electronic music site presents a night of bass at Hudson of 5th featuring DJs from around the country including Chicago’s Teklife crew. RSVP here.
There are also two nights of official SXSW showcases. The first, on Friday, March 14 features UK/Colombian DJ producer Quantic and Emanon (Aloe Blacc and Exile) and Christian Tiger School out of South Africa at Vulcan Gas Company.
The main event takes place at the Bungalow on Saturday, March 15 and highlights South African goth indie artist Petite Noir and includes a DJ set from Lowdown Loretta Brown a.k.a. Erykah Badu with Thundercat.
