Bands and film crews, start your engines: The Music Video Race is coming to Austin. Launched a couple years ago in San Francisco, this event, in which teams create music videos in a three-day weekend and then show them at a premiere the following weekend, is branching out to Austin and Los Angeles this year.
The Austin filmmaking weekend is Sept. 5-7, with the premiere party set for Sept. 13 at Empire Control Room that also will feature live performances by some of the participating bands. Applications are now being accepted at www.musicvideorace.com.
A panel of local judges – Laurie Gallardo of KUTX, Lizzy Newton of SXSW, Tommy Swenson of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Mike Wilson of Devolver Digital – will select winners for prizes that include a day of recording time at Good Danny’s Studio.
