Adding yet one more piece to its growing collection of outdoor sculpture, the Contemporary Austin has acquired “Tower of Power,” a bronze piece by Tom Sachs, for the museum’s Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park at Laguna Gloria.

This spring Sachs was the subject of a celebratory solo exhibit “Boombox Retrospective” at the Contemporary.

As part of that showing, several of Sachs’ sculpture were installed at Laguna Gloria.

And thanks to monies from the $9 million grant from the Marcus Foundation that established the sculpture park two years ago, Sachs’ 12-foot tall tower of car batteries cast in bronze is now a part of the permanent collection.

“Tower of Power” joins other acquisitions to the sculpture collection including pieces by Tom Friedman, Ursula von Rydingsvard, Liam Gillick and Marianne Vitale.
