Spun Ice Cream, which opened the week before Christmas at 1912 E. Seventh St., has found a clever way to make their seemingly seasonal treats more appealing during this cold weather. The ice cream purveyors, who used liquid nitrogen to make ice cream on demand, started serving ‘steamies’ today. ‘Steamies,’ which are steamed versions of their ice creams. Seasonal flavors include dark chocolate and gingerbread. Spun Ice Cream, which is located in the same East Austin strip as Salt & Time, is owned and operated by sisters Ashley and Christina Cheng, daughters of Chinatown restaurant founder Ronald Cheng.
