Two days ago, the internet granted us a little gift: the discovery of Austin’s own Oscar-winning Matthew McConaughey’s YouTube channel.

As the Reddit user who found the link pointed out, the “Dazed and Confused” actor indeed has a verified YouTube channel. The weird thing is nobody had seemed to watch it. It wasn’t until the Redditor’s thread went viral that one of McConaughey’s videos reached over 1 million views — even then, the rest of the videos have under 200,000 views. That seems really strange for a Hollywood actor of his popularity.

McConaughey joined YouTube in 2013, though he didn’t post his first video until a little over a year later (from Austin, mind you). In it, he pushes people to go to Whole Foods and purchase bottles from “I Am Waters” which provides clean water to homeless public school children.[youtube=]
Most of the videos are him advocating for one cause or another, actually. There’s a second one of him talking about “I Am Waters” again. There’s also a couple of videos where he talks about his Just Keep Livin’ Foundation and #GivingTuesday, a movement to create an international day of giving following Thanksgiving in the U.S.[youtube=]
Aside from his charitable videos, he’s also posted a couple of movie trailers from movies he recently starred in — specifically, the animated movies “Kubo and the Two Strings” and “Sing.”

We’re not sure why his videos haven’t taken off in the past, but he seems to be using them for a good cause. Maybe that Reddit thread will give him the followers he deserves. But for now, we’ll leave you with McConaughey’s sign-off for every video: “Just keep livin’.”
