Austin has another chocolate shop just in time for Valentine’s Day.

On Tuesday, Austinite Maggie Callahan opened a storefront for her artisan chocolate company, Maggie Louise Confections, at 1017 E. Sixth St., a 1,570-square-foot retail outlet just east of Interstate 35 that will house a tasting room and working kitchen.

Callahan started her business a few years ago after earning a pastry degree from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Austin, and she now makes stylish collections of molded chocolates and truffles that reflect a feminine, urban aesthetic she honed as a corporate lawyer in New York.

You can shop for her products online ( or swing by the shop, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

I was driving by Maggie’s shop the other day and noticed both a corner grocery and a gelato shop that are scheduled to open in the same building in the next two months. The full-sized grocery store set to open in the Plaza Saltillo development nearby, however, won’t be open for another few years, and we still don’t know which supermarket will take over the space.
