Blues on the Green, the very popular Zilker Park summer concert series hosted by Austin radio station KGSR 93.3FM turns 25 this year. The station celebrates with a series of four shows kicking off Weds., May 27 with the Official Antone’s 40th Anniversary Celebration. The tribute to the storied blues club, set to reopen downtown this summer is hosted by recent rock ‘n’ roll hall of fame inductee Jimmie Vaughan. Entertainment features a 55 minute set by the Antone’s All-Star review. We can likely expect appearances from the city’s top blues and blues rock players like Malford Milligan, Alejandro Escovedo and the lovely Ms. Lavelle White. Folks like Marcia Ball and Doyle Bramhall II might show up too. At 8:55 p.m. KGSR promises a special guest. Will it be acclaimed songwriter and super producer T Bone Burnett? Perhaps Vaughan will reunite with his old band the Fabulous Thunderbirds? Will they break out Hologram Stevie?

All are possibilities (except Hologram Stevie, we’ll be shocked if that happens) but it could just as easily be a national artist like Bonnie Raitt who has strong ties to the Austin blues scene or hometown hero Gary Clark Jr. who has graciously credited the club with nurturing his artistic development on numerous occasions and is an investor in the relaunch.

The series continues on June 24 with young folk-rock juggernaut Shakey Graves performing alongside explosive husband/wife hip-hop duo Riders Against the Storm. On July 22, local fave Bob Schneider is joined by Walker Lukens and on August 5 it’s a double bill featuring indie rockers Jamestown Revival and soulful pop singer Max Frost.
