Austinís chorus of Italian restaurants gets a new voice this weekend with the opening of Red Ash in the Colorado Tower at Third and Colorado streets. The restaurant is a project from Austin empire-builders Guy Villavaso, Larry Foles and executive chef John Carver, who founded Eddie Vís.

The restaurant will feature a wood-fired grill for chops and steaks, as well as homemade pasta like pappardelle with wild boar and selections of artisan charcuterie and cheese. Other highlights of the menu include Gulf red snapper a la plancha, Osso Bucco Milanese and wood-roasted lobster tails.

The wine list includes Barolos and Barbarescos of Italy and California cabs. Catering to the downtown crowd, Red Ash will offer a daily happy hour from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with small plate offerings and $2 off glasses of wine and beer.
