From the City of Austin:
In anticipation of Tropical Storm Bill, the Austin Animal Center is asking the community to delay surrendering or turning in lost animals for the next 48 hours due to the center being at capacity.
The City will be evacuating approximately 50 dogs from the Town Lake Animal Center, 1156 W. Cesar Chavez St., in preparation of possible flooding. The dogs will be temporarily moved to the Austin Animal Center, 7201 Levander Loop.
“If you find a lost pet or are planning to surrender a pet we are asking people to keep pets with them as long as they safely can before opting to bring a pet into the shelter” Chief Animal Services Officer Tawny Hammond said.
Additionally, the City is asking already approved foster volunteers and rescue partners to temporarily take a large to medium-sized dog for the next 24-72 hours.
Approved fosters should email Animal.Foster@austintexas.gov with the title: “TEMPORARY FOSTER.” All animals will be available for pickup at the Austin Animal Center, Levander Loop location.
The Austin Animal Center will remain open today until 7 p.m.
