Steven Raichlen, the foremost barbecue expert in the country, will be teaming up with Austin’s own Aaron Franklin for a book event at 7 p.m. Wednesday at BookPeople.

Raichlen’s newest book is “Project Smoke: Seven Steps to Smoked Food Nirvana” (Workman, $22.95), and the pitmasters will talk about picking the right meat and wood, getting the right smoking set-up, even if it’s in your kitchen, and how innovations in barbecue technology have made this ancient tradition easier for home cooks to try on their own.

Franklin, you’ll remember, won a James Beard Award in 2015 for Best Chef Southwest, and his debut book, “Franklin Barbecue: A Meat-Smoking Manifesto,” came out last year.

Raichlen has published roughly 30 cookbooks since the mid-1980s, and according to his bio, they have sold more than 4 million copies.
