It’s not always clear where the state of Texas stands with internet list maker Thrillst.
At times their lists sing our praise, but in others, the website ranks the Lone Star state below Michigan.
But when it comes to the most important women in barbecue, Thrillst couldn’t seem to avoid giving three of the 12 coveted spots to Texas women.
To few people’s surprise, Tootsie Tomanetz, formerly of City Market and now pitmaster at Snow’s BBQ in Lexington, made the list. At 80 years old and with decades in the business under her pitmaster apron, Tomanetz is a fixture in Texas barbecue legend.
Nodding towards her not so humble beginnings (if we’re talking about the barbecue business), Thrillst also included LeAnn Mueller of the famed Mueller family. Mueller is currently CEO of Austin favorite La Barbecue.
Finally, in a move that may or may not have outed Thrillst as a La Barbecue fan before a Franklin Barbecue fan, Thrillst also put Alison Clem, Mueller’s general manager at La Barbecue, in their roundup of the most important women in barbecue.
While Texas women claimed more than the women of any other state, we know there is quite a few worthy women from Texas that Thrillst missed. Tell us who you think should have been included in the comments.
