Nine million Dylan comparisons later the 26-yr-old Australian singer spent the bulk of her FFF Fest set proving to the audience that while she might be one of the wittiest lyricist you’ve heard in years, first and foremost she’s a rocker. With a laid back demeanor she spent much of her set with her head cocked back, hair in her face furiously strumming her guitar, lost in the music.
Without an excess of ego or showy flair she exuded easygoing likability and the audience, a thick crowd, sang along enthusiastically to quirky hits like "Avant Gardner" the title track from her recent album. The fact that her songs are as smart as they are catchy only adds to her appeal.
The most striking thing about Barnett’s set was her substantial star power. With a SXSW 2015 appearance already on the books, it’s a safe guess that Barnett will be one of this year’s biggest FFF breakouts.
