The sampler platter ($10.99) at Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant in Lakeway brings a wide variety of flavors to the table that can fill even a hearty eater.
There are two each of shrimp brochette, fajita nachos, quesadillas, stuffed jalapeņos and babyback ribs, with sides of guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream.
The bacon-wrapped shrimp contained slivers of jalapeņo to give them just a hint of heat. The nachos were topped with cheese and chunks of tender beef, while the quesadillas enclosed cheese and fajita meat. The jalapeņos were filled with cream cheese, breaded and deep-fried, and the fall-apart ribs were coated in barbecue sauce.
Even when two average diners split all that, they may have trouble finishing a main course.
But if you want to give it a try, two tasty dishes include the enchiladas verdes ($7.99), with their flavorful chicken and cilantro sauce, and the chile poblano rellenos ($9.29 for a full order, which includes two stuffed peppers), filled with beef and coated with a thick egg batter.
The restaurant is a colorful spot, alluding to a courtyard surrounded by tile-roofed verandas. The blue ceiling offers a nice backdrop for the multitude of yellow-shade lamps suspended from it.
In addition to this Lakeway location, the local chain has restaurants in Cedar Park and Bastrop, giving even more people the opportunity to choose between having that sampler platter as an appetizer or an entree.
