• Though The Washington Post recently scolded the Smithsonian Institution's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum for passing out more than 100 awards in the past five years to our nation's top designers while, at the same time, never actually staging a major national design show ... congrats to University of Texas School of Architecture prof Sergio Palleroni, who received a Special Jury Commendation in this year's National Design Awards, which the Cooper-Hewitt distributes. Palleroni runs a 10-week design/build studio that has students working on housing for marginalized communities around the world. -- Jeanne Claire van Ryzin

n It's summer, and that means that energetic Austinite Kathy Dunn Hamrick is once again taking her show on the road. This time Hamrick is headed to the Big Apple where the Field, a New York-based artist service organization, presents the "GoTour Road Show" at Performance Space 122 July 8-9. The Field launched the GoTour.org Web site a year ago to help regional artists book their own tours and get their work out to a larger audience. -- J.C.v.R.

n Also hitting the road that weekend ... playwright and sometime American-Statesman contributor Dan Dietz will see his play "tempOdyssey" produced as part of New York's Summer Play Festival July 5-10 at Beckett Theatre in Theatre Row. Nominated for numerous Austin Critic's Table Awards, "tempOdyssey" premiered in 2003 as a Salvage Vanguard Theater production and was staged for the New Work Now! festival at The Public Theater in New York. -- J.C.v.R.
