Miguel Rivera of Miró Rivera Architects was among five winners of the 2005 American Institute of Architects Young Architects Award announced last week. The award, which goes to architects licensed for 10 years or fewer, honors individuals who have shown exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession early in their careers. Among other projects in Austin, his firm has designed a pavilion addition to the Alumni Center at the University of Texas and the conversion of the Austin Theater on South Congress Avenue and Live Oak Street. A native of Puerto Rico, Rivera attended the University of Puerto Rico and Columbia University. Prior to moving to Austin, he worked for New York firms Gwathmey Seigel Architects and Mitchell/Giurgola Architects. The Young Architects Award will be presented at the AIA 2005 National Convention and Design Exposition in Las Vegas in May. -- Jeanne Claire van Ryzin
