Austin, it’s time for your close-up.

Reality TV has loved Central Texas for years now, and more and more lately, scripted programs are keen on Austin, too.

Our city is currently front and center in two highly rated prime-time shows: ABC’s “Killer Women” and CBS’s “The Mentalist.”

“Killer Women,” which airs at 9 p.m. Tuesdays on KVUE, features Molly Parker (Tricia Helfer) as a Texas Ranger – the only female Texas Ranger – determined to prove herself to her male colleagues.

The action-packed, sometimes gory show is jam-packed with Austin scenes, including shots of City Hall and other downtown landmarks on a recent episode and even a cameo by KVUE news anchor Quita Culpepper.

Meanwhile, on “The Mentalist,” which airs at 9 p.m. Sundays on KEYE, a growing number of characters are now stationed in Austin.

Among them is Dennis Abbott, a Texas born and raised FBI agent played by Rockmond Dunbar. He’s been joined in recent weeks by FBI consultant Patrick Jane (Simon Baker), who relocated from Sacramento, as well as special agents Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and Kimball Cho (Tim Kang).

Which show will be next to plant roots here? Stay tuned …
