Loriana Hernandez, a fixture at KTBC for the past seven years, will leave the station next month, she announced today.

Her final day on the air will be Jan. 3.

Hernandez, who currently co-anchors “Good Day Austin,” said she plans to relocate to Washington, D.C., where her husband, Cesar Aldama, lives.

The two have a 19-month-old son.

“My husband and I have commuted for the past few years so I could keep doing what I love doing here at Fox 7, but we need to be together as a family,” she said on Facebook. “While I'm excited about what the future holds for us and my future career endeavors, it will be very hard for me to leave the ‘other’ family that made us feel so welcome. I'm talking about my colleagues here at Fox and the amazing Central Texas viewers.”

Hernandez arrived at Fox 7 in January 2007 after a stint at the NBC station in Dallas. She spent most of her time here anchoring the station’s 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. newscasts, but moved to mornings earlier this year.

Christine Haas now anchors the weeknight newscasts on Fox 7 alongside Mike Warren.

“For seven years you have allowed me into your living room to either give you the news of the day before you called it a day or be there when you wake up to tell you what happened while you slept,” Hernandez said. “Austin is an incredible community that has given me much and been there for me through so many exciting twists and turns, from getting married to fertility woes as I struggled to be a mommy to finally a pregnancy where you watched me grow on the air and then the birth of our son Gabriel.

“Thank you for all the memories. There is no place like Austin. It is one stop on my journey I will never forget.”

A station spokesperson said other Fox 7 staffers will fill in on “Good Day Austin” while managers look internally and externally for a replacement.
