Christine Haas, who co-anchored ABC affiliate KVUE's top-rated evening newscasts from 2003 to 2008, is returning to Austin, where she's set to join rival KTBC.
At Fox 7, she'll sit alongside Mike Warren on the station's 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. news broadcasts.
Her first day is Aug. 12.
Haas left KVUE to anchor mornings on sister station KHOU in Houston but, more recently, she's been seen afternoons on NBC-owned KNSD in sunny San Diego.
“Christine is well-respected in this business, winning numerous awards for her reporting," said Fox 7 news director Pam Vaught. "She’s going to be a valuable member of our team and we look forward to her return to Austin.”
Even though Austin is a smaller TV market than both Houston and San Diego, Haas said she's missed Central Texas and is eager to get back.
"My career has taken many twists and turns, and I feel so blessed that I’m headed straight back to Texas," she said. "My son was born in Austin and our hearts truly never left our family and friends who make it so special. My thanks to Fox 7 for making this homecoming a reality."
At Fox-owned KTBC, Haas replaces Loriana Hernandez, who recently moved to mornings after longtime anchor Katherine Kisiel left for Portland, where her husband, former KXAN investigative reporter Chris Willis, landed a new gig.
In her new job, Haas will face some stiff competition from her former employer, as well as NBC affiliate KXAN. KVUE and KXAN have traded first place at 5 p.m. in recent months, while KVUE's late-night newscast remains a dominant No. 1.
