Your Mom’s Burger Bar is closing, and a new banh mi concept, Bun Belly, will move into the space on 5001 Airport Blvd.
Quang Vuong and Kim Thai, owners of Pho Thaison at 4438 Anderson Ln., will operate Bun Belly. As part of the agreement to take over the business, they also have negotiated option rights for the adjacent Tamale House, which recently closed following the passing of founder Robert Vasquez. There is no word on an opening date for Bun Belly, or the new owners’ plans for the former Tamale House.
As part of the business transfer deal, Your Mom’s Burger Bar owners Ryan and Gina Blackmore retained naming rights to their stuffed-burger shop, so it may pop up again somewhere else in Austin. The shop originally opened on East Cesar Chavez and expanded to South Austin. The Airport Boulevard restaurant was the last remaining Your Mom’s in operation.
