One of the best new restaurants to open this year in Austin begins happy hour service this week. Upscale East Austin restaurant LaV is now utilizing its bar, wine bar and patio to serve a selection of small plates Tuesday through Saturday from 5 pm. to 6:30 p.m. LaV’s meze menu features dishes with flavors from Mediterranean and French-influenced countries like Morocco, Lebanon and Turkey. The small plates (which range from $1.50 to $7) will be paired with white, rose and red wines ($7/glass or $28/bottle) and specialty house cocktails ($8).

Just like the dinner menu at LaV, the meze offerings will rotate regularly, but guests can expect dishes such as fattoush salad ($7); labneh, zatar, summer vegetables ($5); grilled chicken wings with harissa ($5); and house made whole wheat pita  with choice of hummus, baba ganoush or Muhammara ($7).

“As a chef, I am always looking for ways to explore new cuisine and challenge myself all the while keeping guests happy” said, laV Executive Chef Allison Jenkins. “I hope the Mezzes menu will do just that. I’ll get to depart a bit from Provencal dishes served at dinner, while also bringing back highlights from the Say laV trailer. Coupled with great wines for under $30 a bottle, I hope the Mezzes will be a good introduction to laV for those who’ve yet to join us.”
