Austin Food & Wine Alliance accepting grant applications soon

Culinary students from schools across Central Texas participated in a conference hosted by the Austin Food & Wine Alliance at the Palmer Events Center in May.

In the past two years, the Austin Food & Wine Alliance has given away $45,000 in grants to local food companies and nonprofits that foster “education, awareness and innovation in the Central Texas food and wine community,” and starting next week, they’ll be taking applications for the next round of funds for Central Texas businesses and organizations.

This year, they'll give out $30,000 in grants to at least three groups, and past recipients have included Blacklands Malt, Confituras, Argus Cidery, Tecolote Farm and the Connally High School culinary program. The organization will be accepting applications August 20 through Oct. 1, and you can find out more about how to apply at austinfoodwinealliance.org/grants . The grants will be handed out at a ceremony on Dec. 9 at the AT&T Executive Education & Conference Center.

On Sept. 30, the alliance, which is the beneficiary of the Austin Food & Wine Festival, will host more than 700 culinary arts students from 15 area high schools for the second annual Culinary Arts Career Conference at the Palmer Events Center, and save the date for the nonprofit’s annual fundraiser, Wine & Swine, which will take place at the Star Hill Ranch on Nov. 23.
