The 2014 USA Water Ski National Championships wrap up Saturday at a private water skiing development near San Marcos.
More than 600 of the nation’s top water ski athletes have been slicing up the water since Monday, competing for the USA Water Ski and American Water Ski Association's national titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall. They range in age from 5 to 84 years old.
Want to watch them in action? Each day's competition starts at 7:30 a.m. and lasts until 6 or 7 p.m. The event is open to the public, and is taking place at San Marcos River Ranch, a private water ski development along the San Marcos River. (To get using a GPS, program in 3301 Scull Road in Martindale).
This is big news for Texas, by the way.
The first national championships took place in 1939 at Jones Beach in Long Island, N.Y. Except for three years during World War II, the event has been held every year since then. It's the fifth time the event has come to Texas. The 1961 and 1967 nationals took place in Austin.
