Fat Tuesday: Mardi Gras events around Austin

Fat Tuesday Carnaval

Austin's a good eight-hour drive from Bourbon Street and Louisiana's famous French Quarter, so if you haven't started driving, you're probably (definitely) not going to get there in time for any Fat Tuesday activities. No need to fret -- there are plenty of parties to be found in the Austin area, complete with all of the beads, king cakes and oversized frosty drinks you could ask for.

Fat Tuesday Carnaval: Flamingo Cantina will host performances by Morena Soul, Austin Samba School and Brazilian Funk 'n' Soul starting at 7 p.m. tonight. Admission is $7.

Fat Tuesday Funk It Up: Visit the Sahara Lounge at 8:30 p.m. for some live music by First Flight, Bus Stop Stallions, Boss Street Brass Band.

Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Celebration: Opal Divine's Penn Field will offer a special Mardi Gras-themed menu, king cake, beads, masks and family-friendly live music by Bustamoovalators and Voodudes starting at 6 p.m.

Mardi Gras Party: Cajun mainstay Evangeline Cafe hosts its Mardi Gras Party at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Try some Cajun dishes and listen to live music by Gumbo Ce Soir, the Dan Holmes Band and the Austin Cajun Aces.

Moontower Saloon's Mardi Gras Party: Huerta Culture provides live music for a party with beads, costumes and more from 6 to 9 p.m.

New Orleans Hot Jazz Party: Firehouse Lounge invites you to an old-timey evening of jazz and speakeasy-style cocktails. The free event begins at 10 p.m. Live music by Chico Chico.

Stompin' Grounds Mardi Gras Bash: Celebrate Fat Tuesday at the South Congress cafe with music, beads, drink specials and trivia. Live music by Han Duo, Lost in a World of Color and the Pale Blue Dot begins at 8 p.m.

St. Roch's Mardi Gras Party: Visit your local New Orleans-themed bar from 5 p.m. to close for $2 Abita bottles, $4 Mardi Gras Pain Killer Daquiris, po'boys and free king cake.

White Horse Mardi Gras Party: The White Horse will have music by the Urban Achievers Brass Band and Gumbo Ce Soir a bit later on in the evening. This free party starts at 10 p.m.
