Friday's pick: East End Fourth Fridays return

By Virginia Yapp

The East End IBIZ District -- situated along East 11th Street and Rosewood Avenue -- brings back its East End Fourth Fridays this week, encouraging Austinites to step out for a free wine tasting by East End Wines, free kids' activities, discounts at a number of local businesses and all sorts of giveaways along the way. Attendees can also catch live music at Trailer Space Records (My Luck, Alterist) and Kenny Dorham's Backyard (Death Aquatics, Miss Lavelle White, EastSide Blues Syndicate).

Also recommended for Friday evening:

  • The Off-Centered Film Festival -- the annual Austin event centering on beer and movies -- rolled into town on Thursday with a Rolling Roadshows outdoor screening of "Hot Rod" with the Lonely Island in attendance. For more on the festival and its lineup, check out the Liquid Austin blog.
  • Fit City's Pam LeBlanc has the scoop on Artcrank, an event that brings together a merry combination of bikes, art and beer. Check out Artcrank Austin at Fair Market (1100 E. Fifth St.) between 5 and 10 p.m. on Friday.
  • Out in San Marcos, a bunch of local bands will be performing at MR Fest all weekend long, including Ringo Deathstarr, Magna Carda, the Zoltars and the Please Please Me. Admission to the festival is free; visit the event website for each day's schedule of performances and a list of venues.
  • Looking for laughs? Check out It's Always Funny in Austin for our writers' event picks during this year's Moontower Comedy & Oddity Festival. On the top of the list? Kids in the Hall perform at the Paramount Theatre on Friday and Saturday.
