Tuesday music picks: The Eastern Sea, Lord Buffalo, Sour Notes

By Peter Blackstock and Deborah Sengupta Stith

The Eastern Sea, Lord Buffalo, Sour Notes at Empire Control RoomThe excellent bill of local indie rock on this month’s Red Bull Sound Select provides a good opportunity to shake the post-SXSW cynicism and recognize that sometimes enormous corporations use their powers for good. Curated by Laurie Gallardo of the Good Music Club, the show is headlined by the Eastern Sea, a band that employs sweeping, emotional songcraft with a lovely dramatic effect. RVSP online. $3 tickets benefit SXSW Cares. 606 E. Seventh St. redbullsoundselect.com/events — D.S.S.

Also: Catch consummate bandleader Alejandro Escovedo at the Continental Club; come early for country-folk-blues singer Toni Price, or stay late for soul man Barfield the Tyrant. … Singer-songwriter Sahara Smith’s new project Girl Pilot starts a four-week Tuesday happy-hour residency at 7 p.m. at Holy Mountain. … San Francisco math-rockers A Minor Forest play the inside stage at the Mohawk. … Jazz options include the Jon Blondell Quintet at the Elephant Room and the Glenn Rexach Trio at Brass House.
