Paella at Sounds from Spain day party

As the sangria flowed, so did the music. Sounds from Spain, an organization that fosters and promotes Spanish music internationally, brought some of the country’s shining talent to Brush Square Park for its seventh annual day party.

Artists included folk-rock outfit Arizona Baby. If festivalgoers, who also enjoyed traditional paella being prepared on the spot, weren’t feeling awake by noon, they certainly were after the energizing trio with charismatic frontman Javier Vielba took the stage.

But crowds really perked up when Spanish superstar and veteran pop rocker Kiko Veneno played a mix of classic hits and new songs. Crowds couldn’t help but dance when the master of fusion played some flamenco-inspired rhythms. Loyal fans, from teenagers to grandparents, sang along to his hits in what became a dance party that had people cheering for more.

Other artists on the line-up included Fuel Fandango, Soledad Vélez, Lori Meyers and Betunizer. Catch the Spanish artists again during an official showcase on Friday at Lucille on Rainey Street.
