Willie Nelson’s new album “Band of Brothers” isn’t out until next week, but he gave a sneak peek at the title track Monday night by performing the title track live on “The Late Show With David Letterman” (see above).

Letterman gave Nelson, who performed with his own seven-piece backing band, a glowing endorsement after the song: “We have had many, many great musical performers and music acts on this stage, and this theater has seen the best of the best -- no one better than this guy, ladies and gentlemen.”

The new album is notable primarily for its nine songs co-written by Nelson and producer Buddy Cannon, marking a significant resurgence of new original material for the country music legend. Nelson posted a short Twitter video yesterday in which he explained, “In the last few years, I’ve had a lot of good things to write about. I got on kind of a writing thing with me and Buddy Cannon; Buddy’s a great songwriter and he’s a great producer also, easy to work with. So we just kind of got in the habit of writing back and forth with each other, and the next thing you know, we’ve got an album.”
