Monday music picks: Rusty Shackle, Del Barber, Aimee Bobruk

By Peter Blackstock and Deborah Sengupta Stith

Rusty Shackle and Del Barber at the Saxon Pub. Not to worry, Schneiderheads, Bob’s still doing his 8:30 p.m. weekly Lonelyland gig as usual. Stick around afterward, for this late double-dip of intriguing international country-folk acts. Barber, playing at 10:30 p.m., is from Winnipeg, Manitoba; his fourth album, “Prairieography,” is a sonic companion to the wide open range of Western Canada. Rusty Shackle, at 11:45 p.m., hails from Wales and describes their sound as “dirty bluegrass folk ’n’ roll.” Though they’re drawing heavily from American roots forms, a bit of their home country’s rural traditionalism is in there, too. Free. 10:30 p.m. 1320 S. Lamar Blvd. thesaxonpub.com. — P.B.

Also: There’s no Dale Watson at the Continental Club this Monday, but it’s worth checking out the hot western swing sounds of the Jason Roberts Band in his stead. … Singer-songwriter Aimee Bobruk begins a month of Mondays at the Cactus Cafe. … Cheer Up Charlie’s beats the Monday blues with C.J. Boyd, In Lieu and Cross Record. … Check the Mystery Monday Facebook page to find who’s joining Christine Albert at El Mercado this week; usually it’s at least a ringer or two.
